Cutting across party lines, leaders of major political parties have come together seeking more political empowerment for leaders of the Turpu Kapu community in the upcoming local body elections.

Turpu Kapu Sanghala Ikya Vedika organised a large rally and meeting in Srikakulam on Tuesday to showcase the community’s strength and to make political parties recognise the importance of the community in the North Andhra region.

All India Turpu Kapu Samskshema Sangham president Pisini Chandra Mohan, Patapatnam TDP MLA Mamidi Govinda Rao, AP Markfed Director Anepu Ramakrishnam Naidu BJP Srikakulam district president Siripurapu Tejeswara Rao, former District Cooperative Central Bank chairman Dola Jagan and other leaders spoke about the socio-economic conditions of the community.

Mr.Chandra Mohan said that the Turpu Kapu community has a sizeable population in almost all Assembly constituencies but has been ignored during the allocation of MLA, MP seats in the general elections.

He said that it was high time for all political parties to recognise the importance of the community and allocate more seats.

Mr. Ramakrishnam Naidu said that the community maintains cordial relations with all other communities and hoped to get legitimate number of seats in the next local body elections.
