The sacrifice of Potti Sreeramulu in the formation of separate linguistic State of Andhra Pradesh was remembered on the freedom fighter’s 125th birth anniversary celebrations held across Nandyal, Kurnool and Anantapur by the district administrations and various other organisations, on Monday

Participating in the celebrations at Banaganapalle in Nandyal district, Roads and Buildings (R&B) Minister B.C. Janardhan Reddy said the Telugu-speaking State of Andhra Pradesh was carved out of the then Madras State due to the 58-day fast of Potti Sreeramulu. He said Potti Sreeramulu laid down his life for the formation of Andhra Pradesh.

The birth anniversary celebrations were also organised in the district Collectorates and government offices and other institutions in Kurnool and Anantapur districts.
