In order to safeguard the public from forest fires during the summer season, the Forest Department has banned trekking activities in Salem district.

Every year, between February 15 and April 15, trekking activities will be banned for two months in forests. The ban has been implemented this year as well to safeguard tourists and trekkers from the forest fire. Recently, a forest fire broke out in Yercaud, destroying plants and herbs in and around the 10 acres. To prevent these fires and to prevent animals from entering into human habitations in Salem, various steps are undertaken by the Forest Department.
