Tragedy struck the families of two migrant construction workers from Raikal mandal in Jagtial district as the private travels bus in which they were travelling in met with an accident in Andhra Pradesh’s Markapuram district early on Thursday. At least 14 passengers were killed and several others injured when the private bus caught fire after colliding head on with a tipper lorry near Rayavaram in Andhra Pradesh. The bus belonging to Harikrishna Travels was on its way to Vinjamuru from Nirmal in Telangana when the accident occurred. According to Jagtial police, Punugoti Venkatesh (38), a mason from Ayodya village and U. Ramadevi (41), a construction worker from Itkyal village in Raikal mandal, met with a tragic end in the horrific road accident. In all, eight persons, all construction workers, boarded the ill-fated bus in Jagtial and Korutla towns on Wednesday evening to reach their natives places in Andhra Pradesh. While E. Manohar, 32, and Uppu Manohar, 21, managed to escape by breaking open the windows, D. Rathamma, 35, and Kiran, 21, sustained multiple injuries in the accident. They were admitted to the Government Hospital in Markapuram. A mother-daughter duo identified as N. Prabavathi, 36, a construction worker from Anantharam village in Jagtial rural mandal, and her six-year-old daughter Chaitra, were feared dead in the devastating bus mishap. They boarded the bus in Jagtial on their way to their native village in Podili mandal of Markapuram district. Jagtial district police listed the duo and another passenger, identified as Ramaiah of Rudrangi, as ‘missing or feared dead’. Sources said that the owner of the 34-seater private non-AC sleeper bus hails from Krishna district in Andhra Pradesh and added that the bus used to ply daily between Nirmal and Vinjamuru.
