HYDERABAD Hyderabad police have announced traffic restrictions and diversions in parts of the Old City on Saturday (January 17, 2026) in view of the Telangana Sangeetha Naataka Academy’s Ghazal programme scheduled at Chowmahalla Palace in the evening. According to the Traffic Police, a large public turnout is expected for the programme, which will be held from 6.30 p.m., leading to moderate congestion in and around Chowmahalla Palace. To ensure smooth vehicular movement, several key roads will remain closed to all types of vehicles from 2 pm to 11 pm on Friday. The restricted stretches include the roads from Madina to Charminar, Charminar to Shalibanda, Shalibanda near Rajesh Medical Hall to Volga Junction, and from Volga Junction to Moosabowli via Khilwat Road. Traffic police officials said these measures were necessary to manage crowd movement and avoid bottlenecks in the densely populated area. Traffic coming from Nayapool towards Charminar will be diverted at Madina Junction towards City College, while vehicles from Nagulchintha and Shalibanda heading to Charminar will be diverted at Himmatpura towards Hari Bowli and Volga Junction, and further towards Fateh Darwaza Road. Vehicles approaching Chowmahalla Palace from Himmatpura will not be allowed beyond Volga Junction and will be redirected towards Fateh Darwaza, with traffic from Fateh Darwaza also being diverted towards Himmatpura. Vehicles from Puranapool heading towards Moosabowli will not be permitted to proceed towards Charminar and will be diverted towards City College. Traffic from Chowk Maidan Kaman towards Charminar will be rerouted via Kotla Aliza or Moghalpura, while vehicles from Etebar Chowk heading towards Gulzar House will be diverted towards Mandi Miralam Market or Bibi Bazar. Traffic from Mitti Ka Sher will be barred from moving towards Gulzar House and redirected via Ghansi Bazaar to reach the High Court road. Vehicles from the APAT side will be diverted at Lakkad Kote towards the Old office of Police Commissioner lane and Mandi Miralam Market, based on need. The restrictions will also apply to RTC buses. City buses heading towards Charminar will terminate at Afzalgunj, while buses coming from Falaknuma will be diverted at Shamsheergunj towards Tadban. District-bound RTC buses from MGBS and Imlibun, that usually pass through Nayapool and Madina, will be diverted via Chaderghat, Chanchalguda, Saidabad, I.S. Sadan, DMRL Junction, Midhani Junction, MBNR flyover and Bandlaguda towards Aramghar. The Traffic Police have advised commuters to plan their travel in advance, follow updates on the Hyderabad Traffic Police social media platforms and use alternative routes.
