The Tamil Nadu Vanigar Sankangalin Peramaippu (Federation of Tamil Nadu Traders Associations) has demanded that traders be allowed to carry cash up to ₹2 lakh with them under the model code of conduct, Addressing media persons after chairing a meeting of the association in Thanjavur on Wednesday (March 18), its president A. M. Vikrama Raja said that cash more than ₹50,000 was being seixed by election officials after the model code of conduct came into effect. The federation had earlier appealed to the Election Commission to increase the limit to ₹2 lakh, taking into consideration the business requirements of traders. “We once again press our demand with the ECI to increase the amount carried in cash by traders during the election period to ₹2 lakh,” he added.
