Toddler found dead in Vamanapuram; foul play suspected

A one-year-old girl was found dead under mysterious circumstances at Kanichodu, near Vamanapuram, in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday (March 12, 2026).

The police identified the deceased as Pavithra, daughter of Aswathi and Subhash. The child was found unresponsive inside her house. The grandmother of the child, who had gone out for work, discovered the toddler lying motionless on a mat on the floor when she returned home.

The child was immediately taken to a nearby hospital. However, the doctors informed the family that the baby had already died by the time she was brought in. There were also suspected signs of strangulation on the body.

According to the police, death appears suspicious and a detailed investigation has been instituted in the case. The child’s mother was reportedly at home at the time of the incident.

While there are certain contradictions in her statements, the police are also investigating whether anyone else had entered the house around the time of the incident.

The findings of the post-mortem examination are awaited to ascertain the exact cause of death.
