A junior engineer of the Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Ltd. (TNPDCL) was arrested by officials of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC), Tiruchi, on Saturday for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹3,000 from a farmer for providing a free electricity connection to his agricultural land. According to DVAC sources, Muthu of Kombai in Thuraiyur taluk had applied through TAHDCO for a free agricultural electricity connection. Though funds had reportedly been sanctioned, the connection was delayed. When he approached the junior engineer at the Sengattupatti office of the TNPDCL on February 27, the official allegedly demanded ₹3,000 to process the application.
