Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB), along with Madurai district administration in collaboration with E Cycle Solutions Private Limited, Chennai, is to organise a mass e-waste collection drive at MADITSSIA Hall between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. in Madurai on January 8.

A statement from the organisers said the mission of the initiative was to engage every sector of the society to responsibly dispose the electronic wastes. The collected e-waste would be sent to authorised waste management agency for safe and scientific recycling or disposal.

With current trend in increasing generation of e-waste, improper disposal poses a significant threat to the environment, mainly due to toxic substances used in electronic items such as lead, cadmium, mercury and brominated flame retardants, which affects the quality of environment and human health, if not disposed of scientifically.

Hence, the organisers, requested the public, residential establishments, educational institutions, private organizations, commercial establishments, industries, government departments, local bodies and so on, to join this initiative by handing over their electronic wastes during the event.
