In the council meeting held on Thursday (February 5, 2026), the councillors demanded action against a Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) functionary for allegedly threatening conservancy workers. Municipality chairman S. Nalani Sureshbabu warned of filing complaints if anyone threatens officials or conservancy workers. The ordinary meeting, presided over by the chairman, was held at Tiruchengode Municipality, where 116 resolutions were passed. Speaking at the meeting, DMK councillors, M. Thamaraiselvi (Ward 6) and Annamalai (Ward 27), said that a TVK functionary had allegedly threatened conservancy workers. “While there are councillors for wards, how are they (TVK) interfering in issues related to the municipality?,” they questioned and added that the chairman and commissioner must take action against the person concerned. Ward 31 councillor Murugaesan (DMK) said that there were no security guards at the four parks in Ward 31 and anti-social elements were under way at these parks. The number of stray dogs have increased and they attack people and conservancy workers who are coming to work in the early hours. “While entering into the wards, we are force to feed the dogs with biscuits as a bribe to walk on the roads,” Mr. Murugaesan quipped. Ward 10 councillor Rajavel (AIADMK) alleged that stray dogs captured in other wards are shifted to Ward 10. The clock tower, which was an identity of the Tiruchengode Old Bus Stand, was removed following the construction of a new building. “Before the completion of construction works, the clock tower should also be constructed in the old bus stand,” he added. The chairman assured the construction of the clock tower using the general fund of the Municipality. “Threatening conservancy workers is condemnable. If anyone threatens conservancy workers or officials, a police complaint will be filed against them,” she added. Officials from the Health Department said that steps were taken to control the stray dog population and instructions were given to administer the rabies vaccine and the stray dogs will be vaccinated soon, officials added.
