The Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS) at Sanathnagar will be inaugurated on Ugadi (March 19), announced Health Minister C. Damodar Raja Narasimha on Thursday. During a review meeting, the Minister directed officials to complete all civil works, equipment installation and staff training by the second week of March. Officials informed the Minister that infrastructure development at the 1,000-bed Sanathnagar TIMS has reached the final stage. As many as 16 operation theatres have been readied for surgeries. Installation of advanced diagnostic equipment including CT scan, MRI and digital X-ray machines has been completed, while work on other diagnostic facilities is under way. The hospital js being developed as a Centre of Excellence for Cardiac Care and a Centre of Excellence for Organ Transplantation. The minister enquired about the establishment of cath labs for heart procedures and dedicated operation theatres for organ transplant surgeries. He said the hospital would significantly reduce patient pressure on Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), Osmania General Hospital (OGH) and Gandhi Hospital. He suggested that patients who have been waiting for months for surgeries at these hospitals be referred to TIMS Sanathnagar to ensure timely treatment. Apart from medical infrastructure, the Minister reviewed recruitment of professors, doctors, nursing and paramedical staff required to run the hospital. Given that it is a new facility, he proposed utilising the services of senior doctors under the Director of Medical Education (DME) and NIMS to strengthen the initial phase of operations.
