A tiger, aged about eight to ten years, was found dead at Gangegiri (Chikkamagluru taluk) in Hebbe Range of the Bhadra Tiger Reserve on Tuesday. The preliminary investigation by the officials suggested infighting as the cause of the death. A team of forest personnel engaged in the All-Tiger Estimation-2026, an exercise to assess the tiger population, noticed the carcass of the tiger and informed higher officers. Veterinarians and senior officers of the department visited the spot. A post-mortem was conducted, and necessary samples were collected for further forensic examination. Pulkit Meena, DCF of Bhadra Tiger Reserve, told The Hindu that the preliminary investigation suggested that the death could be due to infighting. However, the officials had collected the samples for further examination. The carcass was burnt as per the procedure after the post-mortem.
