Revenue and Housing Minister K Rajan on Thursday announced that housing coverage under the LIFE Mission has been completed in Thrissur district. The declaration was made at a function held at the District Planning Hall in Thrissur, where implementing officers were honoured for their role in the programme’s successful execution. During the function, the minister formally announced the district’s achievement under the housing mission and distributed certificates of appreciation to village extension officers who played a key role in implementing the scheme. The minister also released the book “Haritha Darshanam,” marking ten years of environmental restoration efforts under the Haritha Keralam Mission. The first copy of the book was handed over to District Panchayat President Mary Thomas. Praising the district administration, Rajan said Thrissur had set an example by successfully ensuring housing assistance for all eligible beneficiaries listed under the homeless-with-land catgeory. Speaking as the chief guest, Higher Education Minister R Bindu said the LIFE Mission is one of the largest housing programmes in the world and added that Thrissur’s progress in implementing the project is a matter of pride for the state. Presiding over the function, Mary Thomas said priority would be given in the coming financial year to providing both land and houses to families who are landless and homeless. Under the LIFE Mission in Thrissur district, all local self-government institutions have come forward to extend housing benefits to every eligible beneficiary listed in the homeless-with-land category. So far, 37,426 houses have been completed under the scheme in the district, while construction of another 7,890 houses is progressing at various stages.
