Three college students were killed on the spot in a tragic road accident after their two-wheeler lost control and collided with a tipper lorry near Agalakote Village on the Channahalli–Bettakote Road on Saturday morning.

The accident occurred around 11.20 a.m. within the limits of the Devanahalli Traffic Police Station.

According to the police, Manikantha, 20, was riding the scooter at high speed with two pillion riders — Srinivas, 19, and Tauseef, 19. All three were friends, residents of Chikkajala, and were pursuing degree courses.

While navigating a curve near Agalakote Village, Manikantha allegedly lost control of the scooter. The vehicle jumped the divider, crossed over to the opposite lane, and skidded onto the carriageway.

As a result, all three riders were thrown onto the road. At the same time, a truck travelling from Budigere towards Devanahalli allegedly ran over the injured youths, killing them on the spot.

The truck driver fled from the scene immediately after the accident. However, the Devanahalli Traffic Police traced the vehicle and arrested the driver, identified as Ningappa M. Kattimani, a native of Vijayapura.

A case has been registered against Manikantha as accused number one for rash and negligent riding, and against the lorry driver as accused number two under Sections 281 and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Further investigation is underway.
