In a gory road accident, three members of a family were killed on the spot, while another was battling for life after the car in which they were travelling collided with a crane coming from the opposite direction at Jagadurthi village on the outskirts of Dhone town in Nandyal district on Friday (February 27) afternoon.

Circle-Inspector (Dhone Rural) P.M. Rakesh said the family of four, residents of Bengaluru, was on its way to the Srisailam hill shrine when their car collided with a crane engaged in road works. The impact was so severe that the car was reduced to a mangled heap of metal and was flung to the roadside.

The deceased were identified as 36-year-old Shanta, her nine-year-old daughter Bhargavi and three-year-old son Siddarth. The head of the family, 38-year-old Pramodh, who sustained a head injury, was rushed to the Government Hospital in Kurnool, where his condition is said to be critical.
