Three members of the same family were killed in a head-on collision between two cars near Kamuthi here on Monday. Police said, Solaiyappan, 67, a resident of Ramanathapuram, his wife Vijayalakshmi, 60, and his son Solaiselvam, 30, travelled in a car to their native village, Thummusinampatti in Virudhunagar district, for a temple festival. After finishing the darshan on Monday, they were returning to Ramanathapuram. At that time, while turning the car to avoid hitting an oncoming two-wheeler near Ayyanarkulam village on the Paralachi-Aruppukottai road, it collided head-on with another car approaching from the opposite direction. In this, both Solaiyappan and his son Solaiselvam, who was driving the car, died on the spot. Furthermore, Vijayalakshmi, who was admitted to Madurai Government Hospital for treatment with serious injuries, also passed away.
