Three plays from Kerala have been shortlisted among the top ten for the final round of the Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards (META), scheduled to be held in New Delhi in March. They are ‘Dhomi Kitha Kitha Dhomi’ directed by O.T. Shajahan and produced by Kayika Nadakavedi, Palakkad; ‘The Old Man and the Sea: Kathakali of Morrow’ directed by Neeraj G.M. and produced by Kerala Kalamandalam, Thrissur; and ‘Y’, directed by Remith Ramesh and produced by Interlink Theatre, Kollam. They were chosen from 422 submissions, the highest ever in META’s history, by a jury consisting of theatre critic Deepa Gahlot, director and playwright Jino Joseph, theatre mentor Keval Arora, theatre director Satyabrata Rout and curator Swaroopa Ghosh. This will be the 21st edition of the META festival organised by the Mahindra Group. The winners will be decided through a week-long screening, culminating in a grand finale Red Carpet Award Night at Kamani Auditorium, New Delhi, on March 25.
