A road accident near Chekkanurani here on Saturday has claimed three lives, including that of a young child. Police said, the victim, identified as Rajaguru, 27, a resident of Karumathur near Chekkanurani, was at home on Saturday night while his brother and sister-in-law were away. When his niece, Pramila Sri, 6, suddenly fell ill, Rajaguru, accompanied by a neighbour, Sangeetha, 28, took her to the hospital on a two-wheeler. The three were traveling on Rajaguru’s two-wheeler and attempted to cross the Madurai-Theni Main Road. At that moment, a speeding cargo vehicle rammed into their bike. The impact was so severe that all three riders were thrown off the vehicle. Rajaguru sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot. Pramila Sri and Sangeetha were rescued with critical injuries and rushed to the Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH) in Madurai for treatment. However, both succumbed to their injuries late in the night. The Chekkanurani Police have registered a case. A search is currently underway to apprehend the van driver, identified as Pandi, 43, a resident of Kuravakudi, who fled the scene.
