Three men were arrested on Tuesday for allegedly running a hair transplant clinic in Anna Nagar without proper registration under the Tamil Nadu Medical Institutions (Regulation) Act and employing unqualified staff.

As per preliminary investigation, the accused, along with the untrained personnel, had performed many hair transplant procedures on clients over the past 10 months. Anna Nagar police registered a case following an inspection conducted by a team led by Dr. Meenakshi Sundari, Joint Director (Law) of the Directorate of Medical and Rural Health Services, Chennai, and based on her complaint.

The arrested men were identified as Jagvir Singh, 33, of Arumbakkam, and Hardeep Singh, 24, of Anna Nagar, both natives of Punjab, who has studied Class 12 and worked in the operating theatre at the clinic. The third suspect was Jaffer Siddique, 27, of Anna Nagar East, a native of Vellore who held a diploma course in Anaesthesia and worked as a technician, administering anaesthesia to patients admitted to the clinic.

The suspects operated the clinic in the name of “Mr. Hair Clinic” on Third Avenue. During the inspection on Tuesday, officials came across that M. Chandrasekhar, 31, underwent a hair transplant procedure without a qualified doctor present. The team also found that Chandrasekhar had advised Rohit, another patient who came for a hair transplant. The investigation revealed that individuals without adequate medical education were employed at the clinic.

Police said that a homeopathic doctor, Vijayalakshmi, worked at the clinic and provided medical advice to hair transplant patients. Police said the investigation found that the three staff members deceived the public, and endangered lives.
