GUWAHATI Three people declared non-citizens by a Foreigners’ Tribunal (FT) have been ordered to leave Assam and India within 24 hours of receiving a notice from the government. The orders, issued by the Karbi Anglong District Commissioner under Section 2 of the Immigrants (Expulsion from Assam) Act of 1950, were issued on February 2, after the FT concerned adjudged them foreigners. The trio are Md Faizul Haque of Manja Nadipar village, Md Fakaruddin of Jadav Rai Grant village, and Md Rafiqul Ali of Hidim Teron Basti. The first two were declared foreigners in cases registered in 2006 and the third in 2007. They have been instructed to exit Assam and India via Dhubri, Sribhumi, or South Salmara-Mankachar districts. These districts share the border with Bangladesh. The district authorities also directed various departments to take necessary action in connection with the orders, including the confiscation of any movable and immovable property belonging to these individuals, the deletion of their names from the electoral rolls, the cancellation of their ration cards, and the freezing or cancellation of their Aadhaar cards. Officials have also been instructed to remove their names from government welfare schemes and social security benefits. The orders are part of the Assam government’s ongoing drive to enforce FT verdicts against declared foreigners by applying the provisions of the Immigrants (Expulsion from Assam) Act. Similar notices have been served on many declared foreigners in Assam since mid-2025, when Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the State Government would follow the 1950 Act to fast-track the detection and deportation of “illegal immigrants” instead of going through a long legal process Published – February 07, 2026 09:04 pm IST Share this: Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window) WhatsApp Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) Facebook Click to share on Threads (Opens in new window) Threads Click to share on X (Opens in new window) X Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window) Telegram Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window) LinkedIn Click to share on Pinterest (Opens in new window) Pinterest Click to email a link to a friend (Opens in new window) Email More Click to print (Opens in new window) Print Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window) Reddit Click to share on Tumblr (Opens in new window) Tumblr Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window) Pocket Click to share on Mastodon (Opens in new window) Mastodon Click to share on Nextdoor (Opens in new window) Nextdoor Click to share on Bluesky (Opens in new window) Bluesky Like this:Like Loading...
