Kuvempu University in association with the Kannada Development Authority and Anna University in Chennai, will hold a three-day capacity-building workshop on Kannada language data collection and linguistic annotation, from March 9. Prof. Sharath Ananthamurthy, Vice-Chancellor of the university, will inaugurate the programme, at Shankarghatta, university campus, on Monday. Santosh Hangal, secretary of the Kannada Development Authority, A.B. Ramachandrappa, member of the KDA, Vijay Sundar Ram, Scientist of AU-KBC Research Centre; and others will participate in the programme. M. Dattatreya, chairperson of the Department of Studies and Research in English, will preside over the programme. Meti Mallikarjuna, professor of linguistics, working at the Sahyadri College in Shivamogga, which is also one of the organisers, said that the workshop would be attended by postgraduate students and research scholars. The purpose of the workshop is to build capacity on Kannada data collection and linguistic annotation. Four experts from AU-KBC Research Centre for Emerging Technology of Anna University would take part in the workshop and train the participants, he added.
