The three-day annual Vasanthotsavams commenced on a devotional note at the temple of Lord Venkateswara in Tirumala on Monday.

Celebrated during the spring season, the festival, also known as ‘Upasamanotsavam,’ symbolises relief from the summer heat for the deities. Special offerings of fragrant flowers and a variety of fruits marked the occasion.

The mandapam was elaborately decorated to resemble the Seshachalam forests, with artistic depictions of a wide variety of animals and birds.

Lord Malayappa, along with His consorts Sridevi and Bhudevi, was taken in a procession to the Vasantha Mandapam. Following prescribed rituals, priests ceremoniously performed Snapana Tirumanjanam in the afternoon, amid the chanting of Vedic hymns by a group of scholars.

Later in the evening, the deities were taken back to the temple in a grand procession.

Among those present were Pedda Jeeyar Swamy, Chinna Jeeyar Swamy, TTD Executive Officer M. Ravichandra, Additional EO Ch. Venkaiah Chowdary, board members and other officials.
