Three college students were killed and three others sustained injuries after the car they were travelling in collided with a private bus coming from the opposite direction at Ezhuthur on the Chennai-Tiruchi national highway on Sunday (February 1, 2026). The accident occurred at around 4 a.m. The police said six students – Dharaniselvan, 20, Vinayagam, 19, Nishanth, 19, Madupriyan, 19, Sasikumar, 26 and Rakesh, 18, pursuing third-year B.Sc. Agriculture in a private college in the district – were travelling from Tiruchi to Chennai. As they approached Ezhuthur, the driver lost control of the wheel, and the car jumped the median and landed on the opposite lane. It then collided with a private bus coming from Chennai and going towards Tiruchi. In the impact, Dharaniselvan, Vinayagam, and Nishanth died on the spot while the injured were admitted to the Perambalur Government Hospital. A case has been registered.
