Three persons were arrested on Monday for making an attempt to throw prohibited items into the Central Prison in Kalaburagi.

Police officials said that a prison constable on duty outside the prison perimeter noticed the three men trying to throw prohibited articles onto the jail premises and raised an alarm.

Following the alert, officials from the Karnataka State Industrial Security Force (KSISF) rushed to the spot and intercepted one of the suspects as he tried to throw items wrapped in a ball-like object into the prison.

He was given a chase and caught when he tried to flee, while two others who were assisting him were also apprehended.

The arrested have been identified as Pintu and Vijaykumar, both residents of Basava Nagar, and Anil Jadhav, a resident of Waddar Galli, in Kalaburagi.

The police have seized two mobile phones from them. The accused were handed over to the Farhatabad Police for further investigation.

The police have registered a case.

Prison officials said that timely action by the security personnel helped avert a possible security breach.

Appreciating the alertness and duty consciousness of the staff, Director-General of Police (Prisons and Correctional Services) Alok Kumar has announced a monetary reward for the staff involved and awarded a Good Service Entry for the officers.
