Threat to life, says Samajwadi Party Lok Sabha MP Afzal Ansari

Lok Sabha MP Afzal Ansari on Thursday (March 26, 2026) said he faces threat to his life as criminals in Eastern Uttar Pradesh are planning to harm him for speaking the truth and standing for the downtrodden, marginalized people. “I have written recently to the Prime Minister and Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla, as criminals are planning to harm me. These (aiming to harm me) are the same people who want to silence every voice in the Eastern U.P. standing for justice and marginalized people facing injustice,” Mr. Ansari told The Hindu.

Mr. Ansari said selective targeting of individuals takes place through movies and individuals facing numerous cases are patronized by the Uttar Pradesh government. “Like Brajesh Singh, a former MLC who is still alive in Uttar Pradesh, and in 1990s who was alleged to have links with Dawood Ibrahim, a known Pakistani agent, but no film is being made on them (Brajesh Singh) as such individuals are sponsored goons of the ruling party.” 

“Movies are linked to individuals, characterizing them to have links with anti-India elements. We don’t know the reality. But, it is a known fact that criminals who are facing dozens of cases like Brijesh Singh, Tribhuvan Singh who are inter-State gangsters, were once accused in the JJ Hospital shoot out case in Mumbai, were discharged later for the lack of evidence.

“It is a known fact that with prosecution stating that the shootout occurred on the orders of fugitive Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar to avenge the killing of his brother-in-law, Ismail Parkar, for which he blamed members of the Arun Gawli gang. Subhash Thakur, was the main accused in the planning and execution of the JJ Hospital shootout. Trial court proceedings culminated in Thakur being sentenced to death, a sentence that was subsequently commuted to life imprisonment on appeal. Everyone knows who is associated with Subhas Thakur, it is Brajesh Singh, once accused in the shootout,” the MP said.

The Lok Sabha MP added, “No one makes movies on them as they are being patronized by the BJP. The reality is such people like Brajesh Singh, Subhas Thakur are sponsored goons of the ruling party,” Mr. Ansari said.
