The State Highways Department has begun construction of a bypass around Thirukattupalli town in Thanjavur district. The Projects Wing of the Highways Department would build the bypass at an estimated cost of ₹22.60 crore. The bypass would run for 3.09 km with carriageway width of seven metres. The Highways Department would also build an overbridge across the Vennar on the Thirukattupalli-Sengipatti-Pattukottai Road (SH99) at an estimated cost of ₹29.85 crore. The bridge would run for a length of 265 metres with two-lane carriageway of 11 metres width. Higher Education Minister Govi.Chezhiaan laid the foundation stones for the project on Sunday. S. Murasoli, MP, and Durai Chandrasekaran, MLA, were present.
