An attempted theft was reported at a branch of Canara Bank in Seshadripuram during the early hours of Monday, despite the presence of the security guard at the front gate. An unidentified man allegedly tried to break into the bank around 3 a.m.

The suspect is believed to have cut open the rear grill of the building to gain entry into the premises. Preliminary findings suggest that the grill may have been tampered with the previous day.

After entering the bank, the accused reportedly searched the premises and moved towards the strong room. In an attempt to disable the security system, he allegedly cut a wire. However, the act triggered the alarm system, setting off a siren.

As the siren began blaring, the accused panicked and fled the scene, before the guard alerted the bank officials and the police.

A team of police from Seshadripuram Police Station visited the spot in the morning and conducted an inspection. A case has been registered, and efforts are on to identify and trace the accused.

The police have obtained CCTV footage from in and around the area.
