Devotees from far and near thronged the Sri Aurobindo Ashram to offer prayers to The Mother, who, as spiritual collabator of Sri Aurobindo, played a pivotal role in establishing the Ashram, founded Auroville, and spearheaded the dissemination of the principles of integral yoga to attain a higher human consciousness. In an atmosphere of tranquility, prayer, and meditation, devotees offered flowers at the Samadhi of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother. Special meditative sessions, readings from their teachings, and gatherings to enhance spiritual aspiration were held. Auroville marked the founder’s birth anniversary, which also coincided with the ongoing Auroville Festival, with a ‘Crown Walk’ along the township’s central artery and the ‘lighting up’ of 12 specific spots along the Crown, symbolising the 12 petals of The Mother’s symbol. A press note said the event brought together a diverse group that included administrators, representatives of various working groups, diplomats, and residents to commemorate the spiritual founder’s vision. Among those who participated were Jayanti S. Ravi, Secretary of the Auroville Foundation and Additional Chief Secretary of Gujarat, Michael Hasper, Consul General of the German Consulate, and G Seetharaman, OSD. At various places en route, Aurovillians organised ‘cultural spots’ to showcase traditional arts and ecological innovation.
