The Telangana Human Rights Commission sought a detailed report from the Director General of Police (DGP), Telangana, over allegations of police negligence in connection with the murder of advocate G. Swapna Kumari at Chevella on February 4.

The commission, headed by Shameem Akther, took cognisance of a complaint filed by 163 advocates alleging gross negligence by the Moinabad police in failing to prevent the killing, which reportedly occurred amid an ongoing land dispute.

According to the complaint, the deceased had earlier approached the police and named her brother as a suspect, warning of threats to her life. The complainants alleged that despite these representations, no timely preventive action was taken, amounting to serious dereliction of duty.

The commission has called for a detailed report from the DGP and posted the matter for further consideration on March 6.

The complainants have sought an independent inquiry into the incident, action against officials found responsible, protection for eyewitnesses, interim compensation to the victim’s mother and expeditious filing of the charge sheet.
