As the State enters the peak summer season, day temperatures are set to rise by 2°C to 3°C above normal in several regions. The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has alerted that daytime maximum temperature in the State is expected to be 2°C to 3°C above normal until Monday (March 23). Maximum temperatures are very likely to be around 37°C in parts of Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, and Palakkad districts and 36°C in Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts (2°C to 3°C above normal) until Monday. Hot and humid weather is very likely to prevail over these districts during this period, with the exception of hilly areas, said the KSDMA. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), maximum temperature rose appreciably in Kollam, with Punalur recording a high of 37.6°C during the past 24 hours ending at 8.30 a.m. on Saturday. No major change was recorded elsewhere over Kerala except for Kottayam, Kozhikode, and Thiruvananthapuram districts where it was recorded above normal. Minimum temperatures remained largely normal all over the State, with Kannur airport recording the lowest at 22.5°C.
