Telangana State Road Transport Corporation vice-chairman and managing director Y.Nagi Reddy on Wednesday underscored the significance of safety, stating that it remains an important objective of the transport juggernaut.

Mr Reddy was speaking at Safety Day, a part of the National Safety Week, at Bus Bhavan. He said that the rank and file of the State road transport undertaking must consider safety as their primary responsibility.

He pointed out that since workers handle heavy equipment, they should exercise caution while dealing with tasks such as operating machinery, welding equipment and managing fuel in bus depots and workshops.

He noted that National Safety Day is annually observed on March 4 and that instructions had been issued to all garages, zonal workshops and Body Building Units (BBUs) to conduct Safety Week activities for seven days to create awareness at the grassroots level. He said a safe working environment not only protects employees’ lives but also enhances the reputation of the organisation.

According to the TGSRTC, the key objectives of the programme include prevention of accidents such as mechanical injuries, electric shocks and fire hazards, building a strong safety culture in workplaces through continuous learning and awareness, and taking necessary precautions to prevent occupational health problems and exposure to chemical fumes.

Under the theme of improving productivity, the TGSRTC emphasised safeguarding institutional assets and enhancing operational efficiency through safe working practices.
