Telangana has consumed the highest ever energy in a day on Monday (March 9) when it was recorded as 335.89 million units surpassing the previous highest of 335.19 MU used on March 18 last year.

According to Deputy Chief Minister M. Bhatti Vikramarka, Telangana stands shoulder-to-shoulder with major industrialised States such as Karnataka (359 MU), Madhya Pradesh (358 MU) and Rajasthan (388.8 MU) in terms of energy consumption, despite having far smaller geographical area, population and industrial density.

The all-time high in energy use in a day in combined Andhra Pradesh was 274.8 MU. Telangana boasts one of the country’s reliable power supply States with uninterrupted (24×7) supply to all categories of consumers, when several larger States were struggling to handle the power demand-supply position.

The Deputy Chief Minister attributed the increase in energy consumption to Telangana’s growth in IT, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, irrigation and agriculture sectors. Stating that Telangana is future-ready to even the energy demand up to 350 MU a day with its strengths of robust grid maintenance, proactive planning and active coordination between power utilities.

He complimented the power utilities for meeting another milestone of supplying highest-ever energy demand.

Meanwhile, the statistics of the Southern Regional Load Despatch Centre of Grid-India (Grid Controller of India Ltd, earlier known as Power System Operation Corporation Ltd), the highest-ever energy consumption in a day in Telangana was recorded as 339.17 MU on March 18 last year and 336.27 MW a day later (March 19).

The consumption of 335.19 MU was recorded on March 18 last year as per the Telangana State Load Dispatch Centre statistics and on March 19 last it was 332.68 MU.
