The image is used for representative purposes only. | Photo Credit: SUDHAKARA JAIN In a step towards bringing about road safety, especially at night,TelanganaTransport Department on Thursday (February 12, 2026) announced that it will begin a QR based verification system for reflective tapes and rear marking plates on transport vehicles from February 20. According to the Department, the move is per Rules 104 to 104(E) of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, and is aimed at improving visibility of vehicles at night. This, the Department stated, would reduce accidents on highways and road and lanes that are not properly illuminated. Details on reflective tapes The reflective tapes affixed to transport vehicles are to carry Transport Department hologram, a unique serial number and a QR code that can be scanned by enforcement personnel to confirm authenticity. Five empaneled companies The Department stated that original equipment manufacturers — Orafol India Private Limited, 3M India Limited, Glodian Reflective Pvt. Ltd. (Reflomax), Daoming Reflective Material India Pvt. Ltd. and Avery Dennison India Pvt. Ltd., are the only five that have been empaneled. No other company or agency or individual is permitted to execute affixation of these stickers. Affixation certificate Vehicle owners will receive an “Affixation Certificate” after stickers are affixed, the department stated. The certificate will have vehicle details, OEM particulars, photographs of the affixed tapes and warranty information for at least two years. If vehicles belonging to categories that are required to have these stickers do not comply, fitness certificates will not be issued unless QR verification has been completed.A three month exemption period from the date of the circular will be in force for vehicles with newly affixed tapes. The Department clarified that prices were fixed for different categories of stickers, and reflectors. Dealers found charging above the notified rates may face cancellation of empanelment and forfeiture of bank guarantees.
