Minorities Welfare Minister Mohammed Azharuddin clarified that the Telangana government does not intend to resume the Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) land parcel.

Mr. Azharuddin said, “The Ranga Reddy District Collector has stated that the show-cause notice will be taken back. It was a routine exercise. This has also been made clear.” The Office of the Collector had sent a communication to the media to this effect.

He also said that it was MANUU’s discretion to make use of the land, and the government does not wish to interfere in this.

In the meanwhile, sources at the varsity said that MANUU administration deciding to upload the show-cause notice on its website had created a flutter within sections of the government. Officials of both the university and office of the Collector have been in touch with each other.

On MANUU’s 29th Foundation Day on January 9, Vice-Chancellor Syed Ainul Hasan indicated his displeasure at the development. In an oblique reference, he said, “We are told to remove [it] from the website. Why should we? It will remain. For your information, whatever threat comes across, it will go to the website.”
