Telangana-born Uday Nagaraju swears in as Life Peer in UK House of Lords

In a ceremony marked by centuries-old tradition, Telangana-born Uday Nagaraju was formally introduced as a Life Peer in the House of Lords, the Upper House of the British Parliament. He took the oath of allegiance on the Bhagavad Gita, symbolising both his cultural heritage and his commitment to public service.

The introduction took place in the historic chamber of the House of Lords in accordance with established parliamentary custom. The life peerage was conferred by King Charles III, acting on the advice of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer. Upon his introduction, Mr. Nagaraju will be formally known as Lord Nagaraju of Bloomsbury.

Life peerages are awarded to individuals who have demonstrated distinguished service and leadership across public life, including governance, education, policy, and social innovation. As a Life Peer, Lord Nagaraju will serve in the House of Lords for life, contributing to legislative scrutiny and national debate.

Lord Nagaraju is the founder of the Mahatma Gandhi Future Leaders Programme and draws inspiration from Gandhian values of ethical leadership, social justice, and global cooperation. 

Professionally, he is recognised for his work at the intersection of governance and emerging technologies. He founded Artificial Intelligence Policy Labs, a think tank focused on the societal and policy implications of artificial intelligence, and is a regular international speaker and author on global governance and future policy frameworks.

Lord Uday Nagaraju hails from Shanigaram village, located in Koheda mandal of the present Siddipet district, Telangana. After his education in Telangana, he moved to the United Kingdom, where he pursued higher education and later built a career spanning public policy, governance, and civic engagement.

Bloomsbury holds particular significance in Lord Nagaraju’s academic and public life. It is home to University College London (UCL), where he completed Postgraduate studies in Public Administration and continues to contribute as a guest lecturer. His introduction marks a moment of pride for the Telugu community and the wider Indian diaspora, as per a press release.
