Several Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers and leaders were taken into custody by police on Tuesday (February 10, 2026) when they held a protest at the Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) office here against the death — allegedly by suicide — of a party candidate, Erukula Mahadevarappa, who contested the municipal elections in Narayanpet district.

The BJP workers who tried to force their way inside the DGP office were prevented by police — who took the protesters away in a vehicle after taking them into custody.

State BJP president N. Ramchander Rao, alleged that the primary reason for his death was “sustained intimidation and harassment by Congress goons’. He demanded a “proper” post-mortem examination to be conducted to ensure transparency. The State party president visited the grieving family members in Makthal on Tuesday,

Union Minister for Coals and Mines, G. Kishan Reddy, and MP K. Laxman from the State, raised the issue in the Parliament.
