A teenager and his two friends were arrested by Kanchanbagh police for allegedly stealing gold ornaments from his own house, with about 137 grams of gold recovered on Thursday, April 2.

The accused, identified as 19-year-old Mohammed Adnaan Shareef, 25-year-old Mohammed Rehan Uddin, and 22-year-old Mohammed Sameer, were apprehended following a complaint lodged by 56-year-old Mohd Rahmath Shareef.

Police said that the complainant reported that gold ornaments belonging to his wife and daughter, kept in an almirah since January 17, were found missing when checked on March 29.

During investigation, it was found that Adnaan Shareef had noticed the ornaments during a family function and later identified where they were stored. He allegedly conspired with the other two accused and carried out the theft in phases, removing the ornaments from the house on multiple occasions.

The accused then disposed of the stolen gold with the help of the co-accused citing financial difficulties and personal expenses as the motive. Police seized the stolen gold, along with four mobile phones and a car, from their possession.

The accused have been produced before the court for judicial remand, and further investigation is in progress.
