The Navyandhra Teachers Association have expressed concern over the incomplete construction of school buildings, taken up as part of the Nadu–Nedu programme during the YSRCP tenure.

In a press statement issued on Sunday, February 8, the association State president Karanam Harikrishna and State general secretary Maganti Srinivasa Rao said; “In many schools, almost 80% of the construction work was completed, however the remaining works have not been taken up due to the lack of funds.”

The association has urged the State government to complete the construction of these buildings, which were taken up on a grand scale, involving crores of rupees, by the previous government.

The members also emphasised the need to construct additional classrooms wherever required, in line with student strength and have appealed to the State government to allocate special funds in the forthcoming Budget under the ‘Mana Badi – Mana Bhavishyathu’ programme.

“Due to inadequate budgetary allocations, the development of basic infrastructure in many schools has not been taken up. The government must allocate funds this time to ensure students do not face any inconvenience,” the association members said.

They members were of the opinion that instead of depending on donors to take up construction of school infrastructure, the State government should allocate dedicated funds for the purpose. The association reminded the leaders that the vision of nurturing students to meet international standards can be realised only when adequate infrastructure is provided in schools.
