His work “Tamil Sirukathaiyin Thadangal” won the award in the category of literary criticism. The book traces the history of the Tamil short story, offering critical insights beginning with V.V.S. Iyer’s Kulathankarai Arasamaram, widely regarded as the first short story in Tamil. Su. Venkatesan, CPI(M) MP and a previous Sahitya Akademi Award winner for his novel Kaval Kottam, congratulated him on receiving the honour.
