Tamil Nadu BJP reacts sharply against DMK for inducting O. Panneerselvam

Hours after former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam joined the DMK, the Tamil Nadu unit of the BJP reacted sharply against the ruling party for inducting him.

In a post on social media, the BJP State unit shared a screenshot comparing Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s post on X from 2018 with Friday’s post welcoming Mr. Panneerselvam to the party.

In the earlier post from July 2018, when he was the Leader of the Opposition, Mr. Stalin welcomed the decision of the Madras High Court to speed up a disproportionate assets case against Mr. Panneerselvam, who was then the Deputy Chief Minister. He had also demanded that Mr. Panneerselvam step down from his post.

Senior BJP leader and former Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan said Mr. Stalin claim that inducting leaders like Mr. Panneerselvam added to the DMK’s strength only reflected the extent of fear and desperation within the party.

According to her, the inclusion of Mr. Panneerselvam in the DMK would be a major setback for the party’s electoral prospects.
