Velmurugan toured through the district and reviewed the status of assurances and schemes on Tuesday (January 6, 2026). Speaking post the tour and review, Mr. Velmurugan said, “An assessment on the status of the assurances given by the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister and the government as a whole revealed a majority of them fulfilled.” As of date, only 32 assurances were pending in the district and there were no shortfalls seen during the tour, he added. On his vocal advocacy for employment of locals in companies like Tata Electronics, Mr. Velmurugan said that a review of the employment profile of the workers was given by the Joint director of Industries during the tour and over 83% of the workforce were locals. However, those were not permanent jobs. “In the light of this, we are going to have a meeting with the Collector and explore possibilities of increasing the local workforce in the permanent category. There were 46,000 migrant workers in the district across various industries. There were 66,000 workers at Tata Electronics and of those, 11,000 were migrant workers, he said.
