The filing of nomination papers for the upcoming State Assembly elections for constituencies in Cuddalore, Villupuram and Kallakurichi districts concluded on Monday. The Election Commission had set April 6 as the last date for filing the papers for contesting the polls.

The constituencies in the three districts in north Tamil Nadu witnessed a flurry of activities with the candidates, accompanied by party workers, and alliance party members, taking out roadshows as a show of strength while proceeding to submit their papers with the Returning Officers of respective constituencies.

In Kurinjipadi, DMK candidate and Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare M.R.K. Panneerselvam filed his papers. He was accompanied by Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) president Thol. Thirumavalavan.

Minister for Labour and Skill Development C.V. Ganesan filed his nomination papers for Thittakudi (SC) constituency while AIADMK candidate and former Minister M.C. Sampath filed his papers for Cuddalore constituency.

In Villupuram district, candidates of the DMK and the AIADMK filed their papers. Former Minister and MP C.Ve. Shanmugam filed his papers for Mailam constituency.

DMK candidate and sitting MLA Anniyur Siva filed his papers for Vikravandi constituency while Gowtham Sigamani filed his papers for Thirukkoyilur constituency. Mr. Sigamani was accompanied by his father and former Minister K. Ponmudy.

In Kallakurichi district, DMK candidate and sitting MLA T. Udhayasuriyan submitted his nomination papers for Sankarapuram constituency.

The nominations filed will be taken up for scrutiny on April 7 and the last date for withdrawal of nominations, if any, is on April 9.
