The stand of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) on seat-sharing with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) will be decided at the Left party’s State committee meeting currently under way in Chennai. The party’s general secretary M.A. Baby is attending the meeting.

The CPI(M), part of the DMK alliance, has not been able to finalise seat-sharing with the DMK, as the ruling party is not willing to increase the number of seats beyond five. However, CPI(M) leaders are firm on being allotted at least the six seats the party contested in the previous Assembly election.

The two parties had already held three rounds of talks. As they have not reached an agreement, the State committee is discussing the issue and is expected to take a final decision by Saturday (March 21, 2026) evening.
