More than 500 village panchayat secretaries from across Tamil Nadu took part in the agitation held near the Collectorate on Friday. The protestors said they were appointed in 2018, but still were working under the existing basic pay structure without any revision, their petition read. They demanded inclusion under the revised time-scale of pay and parity with other government employees performing similar duties. The secretaries also sought issuance of a government order for salary fixation and related benefits, a press release added. “Assurances were given earlier by officials of the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department after representations at the district level. However, no formal government order had been issued so far,” the release mentioned. Petitions have been submitted to senior officials of the State seeking action, the association added.
