Tamil Nadu Elders Welfare Association has urged the Union government to provide age-linked additional pension under the proposed Eighth Pay Commission. In a press release, the association president K.S. Subramanian said the Centre must consider the proposal for age-linked additional pension structure in view of the financial challenges faced by senior citizens. While those aged between 70 and 80 years must be provided with 10% of basic pension, those aged between 80 and 85 years must be given an additional pension of 20% of basic pension. The percentage must be increased further with the age of senior citizens, considering the increasing medical expenditure and rising cost of living.
