Srinath An allegorical statue has been added to the collection of statues along the Marina beach front in Chennai. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin unveiled the statue on Tuesday (March 10, 2026); it highlights the significance and impact of education in the State. At another event held at the Secretariat, the Chief Minister also released a book on century-old trees in Chennai. The statue was installed by the Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation under the School Education Department at a total cost of ₹1.43 crore, an official release said. It is named ‘Katranai Thoorum Arivu’, borrowed from one of the Thirukkural couplets that highlights the importance of continuous learning. The comprehensive guidebook ‘100 Year Old Trees of Chennai’ released by the Chief Minister has documented centenarian trees in Chennai. It is part of the Green Tamil Nadu Mission, aimed to scientifically document trees that are over 100 years old. Mr. Stalin also presented awards to best forest officials/forest rangers to S. Gowtham, N. Venkatesh Prabhu, S. Ganesalingam, Vismiju Viswanathan, M. Saran Vivek, D. Pandurangan, M. Sadhasivam, and Sathishkumar. Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin; Ministers E.V. Velu, M.P. Saminathan, R.S. Rajakannappan, P.K. Sekarbabu, and Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi; Chennai Mayor R. Priya; and senior officials were among those present on the occasion.
