Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Saturday (February 21, 2026) inaugurated the Netaji Subash Chandra Bose flyover over Goripalayam junction, connecting Tamukkam junction in the north and Nelpettai in the south.

Mr. Stalin laid the foundation stone for the ₹190.40-crore project on October 30, 2023.

The project envisaged an additional arm to connect Goripalayam junction with Palam Station Road, and it was delayed due to a legal issue. The cost subsequently increased to ₹213 crore.

The new flyover, along with a new bridge across Vaigai river, parallel to Albert Victor Bridge, will offer a major relief to road users from the traffic congestion at the Goripalayam junction.

The 1.305-km-long flyover that would provide one-way traffic on the elevated structure takes off near Tamukkam junction and lands at Nelpettai junction. It comprises 39 deck slabs.

As part of the project, service roads have been laid on both sides of the bridge. While the service road on the left side of the flyover is 7.50 metres wide with two lanes, the service road on the right side is 10.5 metres wide with three lanes.

The Highways Department has also constructed drainages on both sides of the service roads, along with bus bays at bus stops.

The officials had acquired 12,118 sq. m of land, at a cost of ₹153.94 crore, on both sides to facilitate the construction of the bridge along with wider service roads and drainage systems.

The engineers have completed all the works on the main arm of the flyover, such as the laying of the approach road and services roads, painting, lighting, and building a parapet wall.

The flyover is now open to the public with immediate effect.

The work for the additional arm of 795 metres from Goripalayam junction upto Sellur is under construction and is scheduled to be completed by May.

Highways Minister E.V. Velu, Local Administration Minister K.N. Nehru, Revenue Minister K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran, Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu, Minister for Registration P. Moorthi, IT Minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan, and Madurai Collector K.J. Praveen Kumar were among those present.
