BJP State president Nainar Nagenthran. File Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagenthran on Friday (March 27, 2026) said he would contest from the Sattur constituency in the upcoming Assembly elections. Addressing the media in Kanniyakumari, he said that seat-sharing decisions were made mutually by the AIADMK and the BJP, and that all parties of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) had secured the constituencies they requested. Responding to a question about BJP leader K. Annamalai and the expected allocation of the Kavundampalayam constituency, which was not allotted to the BJP, he said that a few constituencies in the Kongu region had been allocated to the party and that the leadership would decide on Mr. Annamalai’s candidature. To a question on the BJP securing five seats (one being contested by the TMC(M) on the ‘Lotus’ symbol) in Kanniyakumari district, Mr. Nagenthran said they are all part of one alliance and that Edappadi K. Palaniswami would be the Chief Minister if the combine wins. He further alleged that Chief Minister M.K. Stalin had not taken any people’s issues into consideration and had instead focused on his family’s interests over the past five years. He said there must be a change in governance and that the goal was to create a Tamil Nadu free from ganja and sexual violence. When asked whether he would contest from Sattur or the Kanniyakumari constituency, he said that he would contest from Sattur, asserting that the NDA would win all constituencies. Mr. Nagenthran said that the Central government has reduced excise duty on petrol and diesel amid the West Asia conflict, and added that the Tamil Nadu government must also reduce its share.
