The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday (March 30, 2026) issued the formal notification for elections to all 234 constituencies of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, scheduled for April 23. With the release of the notification, candidates can file their nominations from 11 a.m. the same day.

The notification issued by the ECI Secretary was notified in the extraordinary issue of the Tamil Nadu Government Gazette dated March 30 by Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik. As per the notification, the last date for filing nominations is April 6.

On April 7, the nominations filed by candidates will be scrutinised. The last date for withdrawal of nominations, if any, is April 9. Polling, if necessary, is scheduled to be held in all 234 constituencies on April 23. The Commission has fixed polling hours between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. The ECI has fixed May 6 as the date by which the election process is to be completed.

On the day of the notification, DMK president and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is likely to file his nomination from the Kolathur Assembly constituency. Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam president Vijay will also file his nomination from the Perambur Assembly constituency.
