Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit professor Lissy Mathew inaugurating a seminar on ‘Mapila arts in history and culture’ organised by Swaralaya at Palakkad on Saturday evening.

Swaralaya, in association with the Mahakavi Moyinkutty Vaidyar Mappila Kala Academy, Kondotty, organised a seminar on ‘Mapila arts in history and culture’ here on Saturday evening.

Lissy Mathew, professor at Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady, inaugurated the seminar.

Swaralaya president N.N. Krishnadas presided over the function. Zakeer Hussain P., assistant professor at Government College, Malappuram; Faisal Elettil, Mappilapattu researcher and joint secretary of the academy; and Basheer Chungathara, secretary of the academy, presented papers at the seminar.

Swaralaya secretary T.R. Ajayan welcomed the gathering, while vice president Mohammed Kasim proposed a vote of thanks.

Cultural performances followed the seminar. The Masthan Kolkkali troupe from Kondotty showcased a kolkkali performance. Students of MES Higher Secondary School, Mannarkkad, presented an arabana muttu show. The group had earlier secured an A-grade in the State School Kalotsavam held in Thrissur.

Girls from T.R.K. Higher Secondary School, Vaniyamkulam, displayed an oppana performance. A mappila song recital was presented by Anagha Prasad and Mahima Jayan of BSS Gurukulam School, Alathur, along with Swaralaya artistes Mahir, Vimoj Mohan, Shadiya Shajahan, Nishanth and Sini.
